Core; eat like your life depends on it!

Human-Powered Mountaineers' search for the perfect "raw food" inspired meal replacement bar was small compared to that of the actual founder of Core Foods, Corey Rennell. After hooking up with Corey through a friend here in Bozeman and corresponding through emails, we soon had a lovely package of fresh Defender Bars on our doorstep. Corey on the other hand, spent 14 months living with 12 different indigenous tribes around the globe, studying their nutrition and fitness philosophies to come up with the recipes that are Core Meals. After observing the "natural selection" of these tribes when it comes to the things they eat and how it benefits their well-being, he was inspired to create Core Meals.
As a health conscious athlete and adventurer, Corey is very passionate about good food. Whether it's making homemade fresh food packs for his travels or writing his thesis at Harvard about the health epidemic we face today, Corey is definitely thinking about what kind of fuel he puts into his body.

After much research and testing, using simple yet powerful ingredients the Core Warrior and Defender Bars were born. Using the knowledge that "our stomachs are built for about two-thirds raw unprocessed food and one-third cooked or denser food", Corey makes his bars from fresh organic ingredients such as, whole uncooked oats, almonds, raisins, flax, cacao, cashews and coconut to make the bars. The Warrior Bar has whey protein in it making it ideal for those looking to quickly maximize tone and physical performance. The Defender Bar is the vegan option (no whey protein), making it best for slow and steady muscular development and long term immune support. Both bars are made without chemicals, preservatives, flours, sweeteners or extracts. With about 400 calories of complex carbs, healthy fats, and lean proteins Core Meals are bound to keep you going strong for hours!

After receiving our package of Defender Bars in the mail (cold packs included, as fresh food spoils), we had the chance to take them on a ski tour at Lolo Pass.  I say ski tour, but really myself being the snowboarder in the group was trudging along behind the rest of the group on my snowshoes thinking about the Core Bar in my backpack and when we would pull over for a snack break.  When we did stop, Chris and I made sure to share the goods with the others.  There were great reviews all around, these bars taste so pure and feel so nourishing! Drink water with them as the raw oats will hydrate and satisfy you even more. After our snack I was no longer lagging behind the skiers, I kept up no problem, all the way to the top!

If the Core Story isn't amazing enough, let me tell you about this company's ethics... they are committed to the Golden Rule Standards, which means 100% of the net profits are donated to charity, the employees of Core Foods earn living wages, the executive salaries are capped and they uphold a zero carbon footprint; you can send back your wrappers to be recycled into things like camping bowls!
Core Foods is a certified B Corporation, which is a new type of corporation that uses the power of small business to solve social and environmental problems.
Human-Powered Mountaineers are thrilled to have joined forces with yet another amazing food company with a conscience. Thank you Core Foods!
I really enjoyed learning about Corey and his amazing venture, which will be celebrating it's first anniversary on Earth Day this year by the way, so I would encourage you to check out corefoods.com and bcorporation.net.  Both are a wealth of very interesting information.
